Social responsibility

Social responsibility is a term used by many companies around the world without actually doing anything about it. The key is to give back something to the community as part of our normal activity to help other people who are less fortunate than we are. As a Group of companies, we believe that its now time to give back something tangible to the community that will actively help people, under the logic that a small hand can change a persons and communities life.

The way of help provision

The Group has decided to contribute a part of the annual profits towards a community charity project. This is targeted on with the aim of self-help projects where Creditexpress will provide the logistics, financing and tools for community members to develop and grow.

Sierra Leone: Kamakwie

The Republic of Sierra Leone, is a country in west Africa. It is bordered by Guinea to the north and east, Liberia to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west and southwest and has a population estimated at 6.5 million.

Sierra Leone is the twelfth-lowest-ranked country on the Human Development Index and eighth-lowest on the Human Poverty Index, Between 1991 and 2002 civil war devastated the country leaving more than 50,000 people dead and much of the country's infrastructure destroyed.

Kamakwie

Kamakwie is a small town of 9,000 people which saw heavy fighting during the civil war.

The Sella Community Development Project was established to provide a model, to help people develop with a combination of education and self respecting programs all efforts are made so that parents can develop their children, attend school, learn a trade. They have undertaken to create normal human life conditions in an environment indeed lacking in material and spiritual resources.

But the fact is that there are now resources available from the local community or the government to help these people. The fact that a book costs more than a months income describes how hard it is for parents to educate themselves or their children.

The Sella Community project was established by Richard Meads, a former professional sportsman who decided to devote his time to the indigenous people of Sierra Leon. Along with local community leaders and Pastor's they have with a very limited budget been able to educate children and established micro credit programs that actively allow people to start their own business and grow under their own efforts.

The first stage investment to the Sella Community Development Project we have supported specific efforts which are now reality:

• The renovation of a school building to teach all ages reading and writing,

• The installation of a solar electrical system so that the school can operate at night time (previously there was no electricity, so the school closes when the sun goes down),

• The shipping and delivery of a container of used school books from a private donation in the UK,

• Capital contribution to the local micro credit organization.

These donations make a difference to peoples lives, who have suffered but are actively trying to make a better life. As a Group, we should be proud that we are making a difference to the world.
